April 9, 2007 Sorry for not updating in awhile. We could not find the stats book and for this I am sincerely sorry. I will forward the missed stats on to the NHL scouts so no one is left out of next years NHL draft. Few items prior to some recaps & updates.
Quick Last Four Game Recap Its been an eventful last 4 games. We've had the Daiblos win their last 2 games to improve their record to 6-1 and clinch a spot in the championship game. "We may rest our starters and play our bench more the next game" mentioned Diablos captain Lowell. The Punishers earn their first win of the season against the Silver Bullets. "Our team is gellin' like a felon" proclaimed D. Miller captain fo the Punishers. They then proceded to lose in 10-4 game versus the Crusaders last Saturday. "We want that championship game and we are on track to get it." guaranteed captain Abrams of Crusaders. The Bullets dropped to 3rd place with still 2 games remaining. Goalie Bast earns the first league shutout with a 2-0 blanking of the Crusaders. "I earned the only shutout in C league and now in D. Why aren't the Sabres calling?" Goalie Anderson goes 2-2 in his last 4 games and helped the Punishers win their first game. "They played tough and I wasn't gonna let this one slip." said Anderson. Bishop drops to 2-4 with a big loss against the Crusaders Saturday night. "Long layoffs & new equipment is what I'm blaming...wait til next year." Brown went 1-1 and his hoping to keep his GAA where its at to make the championship game. Some notable achievements from the last 4 games. Dylo of the Diablos tallied 3 goals in his last 2 games to take the #3 spot in points. Steenhoek of the Punsishers was a late season addition but has quickly moved up the charts. With 6 goals in his last 3 games, he has been the spark the Punishers have needed. Mitchell has been the set up man for the Punishers notching 2 assists in his last 2 games. No slouch in the scoring department, Ford of the Diablos also posted 2 goals in his last 2 games. The balanced of attack of Diablos star Topliff earned 3 goals and 2 assists while nemesis Feathers (aka Dobby) of the Crusdaers was shut out on March 31, but came back with an impressive 4 goals & 2 asssits Saturday night. M. Phillips of Crusaders tallied her first assist on an outlet pass. Abrams, Dean , Potthoff, Gannon, Mudge & Little earned assists during the last four games as well. Injury Update - During Saturday's game an injury occured mid way through the game. We'd like to report that the boards on the southeast corner of the rink have a concussion and are recovering slowly. Team captain D. Miller felt the boards were not playing fair, so he took it upon himself to teach the boards a lesson. "The boards weren't giving us the bounces we thought we should have, so I decided to give them a wake up call." Miller had a cut above his nose and left some blood on the ice. "The boards took a cheap shot when I wasn't looking." replied Miller. Next
Game Recaps Tuesday, April 10 will be the last regular season game for the Diablos. "Its been a great season for us" stated Kielty & Ford. "We have no doubt we'll win the championship." The Bullets on the other hand need this win. A win here puts them at 4-3 and in a tie for 3rd with the Crusaders. "We control our destiny" stated Clutts of the Bullets. "We'll railroad the Diablos first then finish off the Crusaders." The Crusaders will be pulling for the Bullets on Tuesday. "We want to beat them outright for the #2 spot on Saturday" said Davis of the Crusaders. The Punishers ended their season with 1 win and are anxiously awaiting their competitor for the consolation game. "The beer will be flowing in the locker room before, during & after the game", stated 15 year old Colby Miller of the Punishers, "But I'm just going to drink my gatorade." There is still a race to determine the captains of the draft for the next seesion. With several league leaders moving up to C league and 2 games left, its anyone's game as to being a captain. "I figure if I get 7 goals per game for the next 2 games, I'm right there." said Gavid Green of the Bullets. Commissioner Note Its been a great season for the novice league and we have added many new players to this great sport. I'd like to thank everyone who has made it a success. The refs, music & photo volunteers have done a great job to help make this a success. On a more serious note, I have some concerns about the league. I have been recieveing emails for numerous issues. Whether it be player substitution rules, poor officiating, bad sportsmanship, etc. it seems like there are some things that need attention. I saw a game on Saturday that I thought got out of hand. There is no team or individual to fault, but I see the game getting to a point where it will no longer be fun. I will email more specifics soon to everyone, but my suggestion at this time is to form a small volunteer board that would make league decisions. I have seen my B league get out of hand with players fighting, throwing sticks, refs quitting mid game, etc. This is no fun and is being played for the wrong reason. Lets make these last few games count and try to grow the league even more. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
